    You may not need a UID root at all if you use the UUID method of generating UIDs, but if you do, here are a number of places to get one.
    
    NB. Even if one is a company based in a particular country (e.g., the US) one does NOT have to get one's identifier the ISO member body from that country (e.g., ANSI) ... one of the free solutions below works, or one from another country if you can get one free or cheaper, works just fine.
